JUST IN: PBAT Medic Plus Outreach to Deliver Free Healthcare in 100 Constituencies
By OGB Joseph, Abuja
A grassroots healthcare initiative aligned with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda is set to commence free medical services across 100 federal constituencies nationwide, with organisers saying the programme is designed to complement the Federal Government’s efforts to improve access to quality healthcare.
The Lead Coordinator of the PBAT Medic Plus Outreach, Mr. Matthew Avabee, disclosed this Thursday in Abuja during the unveiling of former Senator Domingo Obende as the Grand Patron of the initiative.
According to Avabee, the outreach, which is being implemented in collaboration with global partners and key presidential support structures, will begin next month in constituencies represented by APC members in the House of Representatives.
He said the programme would provide free medical consultations, diagnosis and treatment, distribution of essential drugs, health education, preventive healthcare services, eye care and support for vulnerable persons through the 2603 Food Box Initiative.
“The outreach is aimed at taking quality healthcare directly to underserved communities while complementing the Federal Government’s ongoing investments in primary healthcare across the country,” Avabee said.
He explained that the initiative was conceived by young Nigerians committed to improving healthcare access at the grassroots while supporting the Renewed Hope Agenda through practical interventions rather than political rhetoric.
Avabee added that beyond healthcare delivery, the programme would strengthen collaboration among presidential support groups, including the Renewed Hope Ambassadors, City Boy Movement, Tinubu Support Group (TSG) and other stakeholders to deepen grassroots engagement ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on the appointment of Obende as Grand Patron, Avabee described the former Edo North senator as an experienced statesman whose leadership and network would provide strategic direction for the nationwide outreach.
“We believe Senator Domingo Obende’s wealth of experience and commitment to public service will strengthen the implementation of this initiative and help us achieve our objectives,” he said.
Also speaking, Head of Administration and Welfare of the outreach, Ms. Linda Ochigbo, said the organisation’s focus was on providing life-saving healthcare to Nigerians rather than engaging in political activities.
She said pregnant women, children suffering from preventable diseases such as malaria, and indigent Nigerians requiring medical attention, including eye care, would receive priority during the medical missions.
“We are committed to touching lives through medical services at the grassroots. Our goal is to make a meaningful impact by reaching people who genuinely need healthcare,” she said.
In his remarks, former Senator Obende commended the initiative for combining humanitarian services with community engagement, describing it as an effective way of bringing government closer to the people.
He pledged his full support as Grand Patron and urged the organisers to expand the outreach beyond the initial 100 constituencies to all 774 local government areas of the country.
According to him, Nigerians are eager to see tangible evidence of government programmes, stressing that grassroots medical interventions would help improve public confidence while addressing the healthcare needs of vulnerable communities.
The outreach’s administrative team includes Dr. Hope Abraham, Director of Planning and Medical Outreaches; Monday Lawani, Co-Lead and Director of Strategy and Evaluation; Pharm. Sadiku Ayomiotan, Director of Drugs and Supplies; and Okpara Gabriel, Head of Logistics.
