A former Deputy Governor and serving senator representing Rivers West Senatorial District, Ipalibo Harry Banigo has formally declared her intention to seek re-election, pledging to consolidate on her legislative achievements while advocating greater inclusion of women in governance and politics.

Speaking shortly after submitting her expression of interest and nomination forms, the senator said her decision to return to the race was based on her track record of service, commitment to her constituents, and dedication to advancing the agenda of her party.

According to her, the renewed bid is aimed at building on the gains already recorded in the district through effective representation and sustained engagement with the people.

“Today, I have submitted my expression of interest and nomination forms to seek re-election as senator representing the good people of Rivers West Senatorial District,” she said.

“This decision is anchored on a proven track record of legislative service, unwavering commitment to my constituents, and a clear vision for consolidation of the gains already made.”

The lawmaker stressed that women still face challenges in political participation and appointments, but expressed optimism that more opportunities are opening up for female politicians to contribute meaningfully to governance.

She commended the leadership of her party for creating room for women to thrive politically and referenced the role of the First Lady, who also served as a senator, as a strong example of women’s capacity in leadership.

“I know that this great party is very favourable to the women’s role in governance. Our dear First Lady was once a senator, a very distinguished senator, and I know there is a great role women can play,” she stated.

Describing her political journey as one built on continuity and consolidation, the senator said she remains committed to expanding opportunities for women and demonstrating that women can play impactful roles in governance.

“My trajectory in politics has always been one of continuity, consolidation, and creating more avenues for women to demonstrate that they can play a very positive role in governance and politics,” she added.

Speaking on the overwhelming support from her constituents, the senator expressed appreciation to supporters across the local government areas who, according to her, had consistently urged her to seek re-election.

She revealed that various groups and stakeholders had held meetings, congresses, and consultations encouraging her return to the Senate.

“I am awesomely delighted to see many supporters who came out today to join me in submitting these forms. I wasn’t even expecting such a turnout,” she said.

The lawmaker assured constituents of her continued dedication to their welfare, development, and visibility, promising to sustain her people-oriented approach to representation.

“I want to assure my constituents of my unwavering commitment to your care, development, progress, and visibility. Whatever gains we have made so far, we are going to consolidate on them,” she stated.

She further noted that her legislative interventions and public hearings have always been guided by feedback and demands from constituents gathered through regular town hall meetings and community engagements.

“I always get feedback from my people on what they want me to do for them, and my bills and public hearings have been based on the needs expressed in those meetings,” she said.

The senator pledged to deepen engagement with the people and deliver even more dividends of democracy if given another mandate at the polls.
