JUST IN: Tinubu Appoints Auchi Poly Rector, Dr S.S. Umar, NBTE Governing Board Member

The Rector of , Dr. S.S. Umar, has expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing him as a member of the Governing Board of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE).
Umar, who also chairs the Committee of Federal Polytechnic Rectors (COFER), described the appointment as a call to greater national service, pledging to contribute meaningfully to the repositioning of technical and vocational education in Nigeria.
In a statement following his inauguration, the Rector expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for finding him worthy of the national assignment, as well as the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa, for the confidence reposed in him.
He said: “I receive this appointment as yet another call to service, one I am ready to discharge with utmost sincerity and dexterity.”
Umar noted that technical and vocational education remained central to Nigeria’s economic growth and development, stressing that the NBTE Governing Board had a significant responsibility in shaping the nation’s technical manpower.
According to him, the board must play a critical role in ensuring that technical education is repositioned to meet the changing needs of the Nigerian economy and provide the skilled workforce required for sustainable national development.
He pledged to work closely with other members of the board to support ongoing efforts to reform and strengthen technical education in accordance with the vision of President Tinubu and the reform agenda of the Federal Ministry of Education.
“I pledge to give my very best, working with my colleagues on the board to support the drive for repositioning technical education in line with the vision of Mr. President and the reform agenda of the Honourable Minister,” he stated.
The Rector further assured the President and the Minister that he would justify the confidence placed in him, promising to discharge his responsibilities with sincerity, commitment and professionalism.
The appointment is expected to further strengthen the interface between Nigeria’s federal polytechnics and the regulatory framework guiding technical and vocational education, particularly given Umar’s position as Chairman of COFER.
He reiterated his appreciation to the President and the Minister, assuring them that he would not disappoint in the discharge of his new national responsibility.
