JUST IN: Sam Onuigbo Declares for Abia Central Senate Seat, Banks on Performance Record
By OGB Joseph, Abuja
Former member of the House of Representatives, Sam Onuigbo, has formally declared his intention to contest for the Abia Central Senatorial seat under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), following the submission of his Expression of Interest and Nomination forms.
Speaking after submitting the forms, Onuigbo said he had already commenced the process of securing the party’s ticket by engaging stakeholders and supporters across the six local government areas that make up Abia Central Senatorial District.
“I came to submit my nomination and expression of interest forms to represent Abia Central Senatorial District,” he said. “I have already started the process by purchasing the forms and ensuring that people in my constituency signed them. That is the process, and today marks the beginning.”
He explained that the next stage would be the party screening exercise, followed by participation in the APC primary election.
“And when, by the grace of God, I emerge as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, we will then participate in the general election,” he added.
Onuigbo expressed confidence in his chances, citing his track record and relationship with the people of the state. According to him, his previous performance in office remains his greatest campaign asset.
“I am in the good books of the people of my state. That is why I was elected twice to represent my federal constituency. In fact, I am the only person to have been re-elected in that federal constituency,” he stated.
The former lawmaker also noted that despite Abia State not being governed by the APC, he remains optimistic about the party’s chances in the senatorial district.
Addressing supporters, Onuigbo reiterated his commitment to what he described as the “GEAR” principle — Effectiveness, Accessibility, and Responsiveness.
“I have always run on the principle of GEAR, which stands for Effectiveness, Accessibility to me, and Responsiveness according to the resources and opportunities available to me,” he said.
He assured constituents that his style of representation would remain people-focused, with continuous improvement in service delivery.
“I assure them that there will be no change in my commitment, except continuous improvement in whatever I am doing,” he said.
Onuigbo maintained that the electorate would ultimately decide the outcome of the election based on candidates’ performance records.
“It is a simple case of performance record. The people will base their decisions on what they have seen, and I have no doubt that by God’s grace, I will be elected to represent the good people of Abia Central Senatorial District,” he said.
