JUST IN: Okpebholo Administration Moves to Digitise Tertiary Education as TETFund Unveils Smart Learning Initiative

BENIN CITY — Edo State has taken another step towards strengthening technology-driven education as the administration of Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo reaffirmed its commitment to modernising learning across tertiary institutions through the deployment of advanced digital teaching facilities.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Student Affairs and Mobilization, Hon. Victor Ureshemi Akande, disclosed this after receiving the National Project Coordinator of the TETFund/National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) intervention project, Dr. Idonuagbe Akogun, during a strategic meeting in his office.
According to Akande, the meeting focused on the deployment of the TETFund-sponsored EDON QR 98-inch Interactive Smart Board equipped with embedded 3D Animation Educational Software for use in Edo State’s tertiary institutions.
He described the initiative as a major milestone in the state’s drive to integrate digital technology into teaching and learning, noting that the interactive smart boards would significantly improve classroom delivery, stimulate students’ engagement and enhance digital capacity among lecturers and students.
“The deployment of these cutting-edge educational tools represents a significant step towards creating a more interactive, inclusive and technology-driven learning environment in our tertiary institutions,” Akande said.
He added that discussions also centred on maximising the opportunities offered by the innovative technology to improve academic excellence and prepare students for the demands of a rapidly evolving digital economy.
Akande reaffirmed Governor Okpebholo’s commitment to expanding access to quality education through strategic investments in educational infrastructure and technology.
According to him, the governor considers education one of the most critical investments for the future of Edo State, stressing that embracing innovation and partnerships remains essential to building globally competitive graduates.
“His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, remains steadfast in advancing educational opportunities across our tertiary institutions. By embracing technology and strategic partnerships, we are positioning Edo State as a leader in educational excellence and innovation,” he stated.
The Special Adviser also commended the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) and the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) for their continued interventions aimed at transforming Nigeria’s education sector through modern learning technologies.
He expressed confidence that the initiative would accelerate digital transformation in higher education and equip students with the skills required to thrive in the 21st-century knowledge economy.
The deployment of the EDON QR Interactive Smart Boards is expected to improve classroom interaction, digital content delivery and practical learning experiences, further strengthening Edo State’s efforts to position its tertiary institutions among the nation’s leading centres of academic excellence.
