JUST IN: 2027: Jemitola Condoles Igarra Flood Victims, Pledges Partnership with Traditional Council on Disaster Prevention

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the Akoko-Edo Federal Constituency in the 2027 House of Representatives election, Hon. Aanena Elizabeth Jemitola, has expressed deep sympathy with victims of the recent devastating flood in Igarra, pledging to work with the Akoko-Edo Traditional Council and relevant government agencies to prevent a recurrence of such disasters.
In a solidarity message addressed to the Akoko-Edo Traditional Council, Jemitola conveyed her condolences to the Otaru of Igarra and the people of the ancient kingdom, describing the flooding as a tragic incident that has brought pain and hardship to many families across the community.
The PDP standard-bearer said her thoughts and prayers were with residents affected by the disaster, urging them to remain hopeful despite the losses suffered.
“From the recesses of my heart, please accept my heartfelt prayers, love and solidarity with the great people of Igarra and the entire Akoko-Edo Federal Constituency following the devastating flooding and destruction recently suffered,” she said.
Addressing the Otaru of Igarra, Jemitola assured the monarch and the people that they were not alone in the difficult period, praying for God’s comfort, strength and hope for every family affected by the natural disaster.
The House of Representatives hopeful also used the opportunity to outline her commitment to addressing the underlying causes of flooding if elected into office in 2027.
She pledged to collaborate with the Akoko-Edo Traditional Council, government agencies and other stakeholders to champion sustainable measures aimed at reducing flood risks across the constituency.
According to her, improved infrastructure, effective drainage systems, sound environmental management and proactive disaster preparedness must form the cornerstone of efforts to protect communities from future flooding.
Jemitola stressed that community development requires a partnership involving traditional institutions, government and the people, adding that lasting solutions could only be achieved through collective action.
She further prayed for divine restoration for victims of the flood, asking God to grant the people wisdom and unity to rebuild affected communities and create a safer environment for future generations.
The recent flooding in Igarra left a trail of destruction in parts of the town, damaging homes, roads and other public
infrastructure while displacing several residents, prompting calls for urgent government intervention and long-term flood control measures.
Jemitola’s message adds to the growing voices of political leaders, community stakeholders and public figures who have sympathised with victims and advocated stronger investment in disaster prevention and climate-resilient infrastructure across Akoko-Edo.
