Governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress in Adamawa State, Dr. Bakari Girei, has declared that education, agriculture, rural development, and healthcare will form the cornerstone of his administration if elected governor in 2027.

Speaking after completing his APC screening exercise, Dr. Girei described the process as transparent, seamless, and professionally conducted, commending the party leadership for creating a fair atmosphere for aspirants.

“I just finished the screening. The process was seamless, very friendly and hospitable. The questions were straightforward and the answers too were very straightforward. I appreciate the leadership of the APC for what they have put in place,” he said.

The aspirant also reaffirmed his support for direct primaries, insisting that true democracy is best served when party members are allowed to decide candidates through the ballot.

“I maintain my stand. I appreciate the wisdom behind the law that allows the party to adopt either direct primaries or consensus. I would certainly prefer direct primaries, and any serious politician would prefer to go to the field and let the outcome be decided at the polls,” he stated.

However, Girei added that he would support consensus arrangements if they genuinely serve the interests of party unity and cohesion.

“If in the interest of party cohesion, party unity and development, the leadership and caucus of the party decide to go through consensus, I support consensus — provided it is going to be a true consensus,” he added.

Speaking on his vision for Adamawa State, the APC governorship hopeful said his ambition is rooted in a long-standing development blueprint aimed at transforming the state through unity, justice, and human capital development.

“Actually, what made me contest is my blueprint. I have always had a vision for Adamawa State,” he said.

Describing Adamawa as a diverse and complex state, Girei stressed the need for inclusive leadership that understands the people, culture, and terrain of every community.

“Adamawa State is multi-ethnic, multi-religious and made up of different terrains. Development cannot take place without unity. To unite a state like Adamawa, you need a leader who understands the terrain and understands the people very well,” he noted.

The aspirant said his deep connection with the grassroots gives him a unique advantage, revealing that he has visited all 226 wards in the state and executed projects across communities over the years.

“I know the 226 wards in Adamawa State. I went to all the 226 wards. I executed projects in all the wards. I have been part of the state and worked in Adamawa State,” he said.

According to him, his proposed administration will focus heavily on social justice, education, economic empowerment, and rural transformation.
.
“My number one priority is education, education and education. My second priority is agriculture. My third priority is rural development. My fourth priority is healthcare, especially for women and children in underserved rural areas,” he explained.

Girei disclosed that his plans are already captured in what he described as a “10-point agenda” and a covenant document that outlines clear developmental targets for the state over the next four years.

“If you look at the document, it tells you clearly that in the next four years, Adamawa State will be transformed, God willing. That is why I offered myself to serve,” he said.
