A leading figure in the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Akoko-Edo, Paul Afagase Johnson, has welcomed the wave of defections from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the ADC, describing the development as a clear indication that many residents are seeking a new political direction anchored on accountability, service and grassroots development.
Johnson, who is positioning himself ahead of the 2027 elections, said the influx of new members into the ADC was more than a routine political realignment, insisting it represented a growing desire among the people for purposeful leadership and inclusive governance.
In a statement made available to journalists, he commended the defectors for what he described as their courage in embracing a new political platform, assuring them that the ADC would remain committed to putting the interests of Akoko-Edo people above partisan politics.
“I am deeply encouraged to welcome the many committed men and women who have made the courageous decision to leave the APC and join the African Democratic Congress. Your decision reflects a shared desire for a new direction built on service, accountability and genuine development,” he said.
According to him, the movement into the ADC is a declaration that the people deserve better representation and leadership capable of addressing the developmental challenges confronting the constituency.
Johnson maintained that the party was building a broad-based movement that would restore public confidence in governance and provide every resident of Akoko-Edo with renewed hope for a better future.
He thanked the new members for identifying with the vision of the party, stressing that their support and commitment would strengthen efforts to bring meaningful change to the constituency.
“Together, we are building a movement that puts the interests of Akoko-Edo first and gives every citizen a reason to believe again. Your voice, your strength and your commitment will help shape a brighter future for our people,” he stated.
Expressing confidence ahead of the 2027 general elections, Johnson said the journey towards transforming Akoko-Edo had only just begun, urging party members and supporters to remain united and committed to the cause.
He concluded with prayers for Nigeria, Edo State and Akoko-Edo, while reaffirming his campaign message, declaring, “PAJ is coming 2027.”
