BENIN CITY – Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has appointed entrepreneur and community leader, Mr. Iyamu Osaro Destiny, as Chairman of the Edo State Consumer Protection Committee.

The appointment, announced in a special government statement dated July 13, 2026 and signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor, described Iyamu as an empowerment advocate, public affairs commentator and mobiliser with a strong commitment to justice, accountability and ethical leadership.

According to the statement, the new chairman is expected to lead efforts aimed at strengthening consumer rights, protecting residents from fake and counterfeit products, and improving service delivery across the state.

The government noted that Iyamu, founder and president of the Aiguobasinmwin Movement World-Wide, has demonstrated leadership in mobilising human and material resources for community development and has authored books on good governance.

“The appointment reflects His Excellency’s commitment to strengthening institutions, protecting the interests of consumers and ensuring effective service delivery across the state,” the statement said.

Reacting to the appointment, the leadership of the Aiguobasinmwin Movement World-Wide expressed gratitude to Governor Okpebholo for what it described as a demonstration of confidence in its president.

In a statement issued on Monday, the group said the appointment showed the governor’s determination to place capable hands in strategic positions to combat the circulation of fake and counterfeit products in Edo State.

The movement expressed confidence that the Consumer Protection Committee, under Iyamu’s leadership, would deliver people-centred programmes and ensure greater protection for consumers across the state.

The appreciation message was signed by the President of the movement, Mr. Iyamu Osaro Destiny, Assistant Secretary, Mr. Uhunoma Ewere Lucky, and Diaspora Coordinator, Mr. Monday Ohuimumwen.

The Consumer Protection Committee is expected to play a key role in safeguarding consumer interests, promoting fair trade practices and supporting the state’s drive to improve public confidence in the quality of goods and services available in Edo State.
