Edokpolo Calls On Federal Government Deployment Of Political Will To Arrest Gaps In Education Sector
By Joseph Ogbodo, Abuja
The President of Benin National Congress, BNC, Amb Aiyamenkhue Edokpolo has called on President Bola Tinubu to deploy his political Will to address seeming leadership gap lacking in education sector of the nation.
Edokpolo made this call when he deliver a paper at the former President Goodluck Jonathan Foundation Democracy Dialogue 2024 as part of activities to commemorate Democracy Day with the theme: ” Functional Education & Effective Political Leadership as a Panacea to Africa’s Growth and Development”.
The erudite scholar who spoke from a social scientist perspective examined the lack in the educational institutions saying the need to use political Will by actors invested with these powers remained undisputed.
He said: ” The audacious clamour by majority of Nigerians for the implementation of these and many other goal- getting recommendations will continue unabated, until the Federal Government summons the right political Will to effectively implement them for the good of all Nigerians.
” A scientific evaluation of our schools curricula, and the education system as a whole will portray a sordid picture of an ill-lubricated and a poorly reformed sector – characterized by relatively poor Government funding, and infinitesimal private sector complementation.
” I hear the State Governor has invested heavily in education, I will painstakingly attempt a holistic appraisal on the Governor’s intervention in Edo State education sector in no distant time from now, maybe at an auspicious occasion of this nature. This is a matter of my civil obligation to the advancement of education in our country and continent”, he noted.
Amb Edokpolo stated that political Will is sacrosanct to any serious conversation for education and political leadership of Nigeria and African continent stressing that he has severally averred that, leadership disasters are worse than natural disasters.
He paid glowing tributes to former President Goodluck Jonathan Foundation and the Edo State Government  and his late father Archbishop John Enoyogiere Edokpolo JP who played a significant role in the establishment of Midwest liberation movement noting that his contribution to is educational development cannot be overemphasized.
” Let me respectfully commence this Address, by paying profound gratitude to His Excellency Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki – the Governor of Edo State – for finding me worthy of this intellectual conferencing as one of the eminent guests.
” I am reminded of a similar honour extended to me last year when I received a personally signed invitation to the 60th Anniversary of the Midwest Referendum. Reflecting on the legacy of my beloved father, Archbishop Dr. John Enoyogiere Edokpolo JP, a key figure in the historic Midwest liberation movement.
” I am humbled to carry on his legacy. As I visited his final resting place following the commemoration, I felt a sense of his joy and gratitude for the tributes paid to him and his contemporaries. May their spirits find eternal peace. Amen.
” Till date, socio-political commentators until very recently ferociously queried the non implementation of the Dr. Steven Oronsaye report on the effective reorganization of Nigeria civil service or public administration stratagems.
” Similarly, Nigerians are still clamouring for the implementation of the 2014 National Conference report- whose underlining transformational objectives are being attributed to His Excellency Goodluck Ebele Jonathan GCFR. I think Past President G. E. J is exceedingly deserving of commendation for convoking that confab”, he noted.
