JUST IN: Davido Should Publish Scorecard as Osun Sports Trust Fund Chairman’ — Akande

The Chairman of the Osun Sports Trust Fund, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has been challenged to publish a comprehensive scorecard of his stewardship of the fund, with questions raised over the progress made since his appointment in October 2025.
The call was made by Hon. Victor Ureshemi Akande, Special Adviser to Senator Monday Okpebholo on Student Affairs and Mobilisation who argued that the popular musician should account for the responsibilities entrusted to him rather than relying on his celebrity status and public profile.
The Osun State Government had, in October 2025, appointed Davido as Chairman of the Osun Sports Trust Fund, with the expectation that his international reputation, business network and influence would help attract private-sector funding, sponsorships and philanthropic investments into sports development in the state.
The government had also announced plans to rehabilitate the Osogbo Township Stadium to Olympic standards.
However, almost a year after the appointment, Akande said the people of Osun State were entitled to demand answers on what had been achieved under Davido’s leadership.
“Where is the scorecard?” Akande asked, insisting that the people deserved to know the impact of the appointment on sports development across the state.
He questioned the current state of the Trust Fund’s financing mechanism, grassroots sports programmes, talent identification initiatives, sporting facilities and competitions designed to discover and nurture young athletes.
Akande also demanded details of private-sector partnerships and investments attracted through Davido’s international network, as well as the financial position of the Trust Fund and the measurable targets set for it.
According to him, “Popularity is not a scorecard. Celebrity status is not performance. And political publicity is not development.”
He acknowledged Davido’s achievements in the entertainment industry and his international influence, but argued that those attributes should translate into measurable results if they were the reasons for his appointment.
“If he accepted the responsibility of serving as Chairman of the Osun Sports Trust Fund, he should be prepared to tell the people of Osun what he has delivered,” he said.
Akande’s comments also took aim at Davido’s reported political criticisms of Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo.
He argued that before the musician attempts to lecture the governor on governance, he should first provide an account of his own performance in the public responsibility entrusted to him by the Osun State Government.
“Before attempting to lecture Governor Okpebholo on governance, Davido should first account to the people of Osun State for the responsibility entrusted to him by the Osun State Government,” Akande said.
He maintained that Governor Okpebholo’s administration should be judged on its record of projects, policies and interventions rather than on political popularity or celebrity endorsements.
“Governance should be measured by what is delivered, not by who is more popular,” he said.
Akande challenged Davido, if he believed Governor Okpebholo had underperformed, to present specific evidence and allow the people of Edo State to make their own assessment.
At the same time, he said Osun residents had an equal right to scrutinise the performance of the administration and public institutions under which Davido accepted his appointment.
He stressed that the people of Osun deserved functional sporting facilities, opportunities for young athletes, investment in grassroots sports and transparency in the management of the Sports Trust Fund.
Akande specifically called on Davido to explain how much funding had been attracted since his appointment, the number of athletes who had benefited, the number of facilities rehabilitated and the progress made towards the proposed transformation of the Osogbo Township Stadium.
He also demanded details of private-sector partnerships secured and the long-term legacy the Trust Fund was building for sports development in Osun.
“These are not unreasonable demands. They are basic questions of accountability,” Akande said.
He urged Davido not to allow his enormous popularity to overshadow questions surrounding his performance as the chairman of a public-interest sports initiative.
“Public responsibility demands accountability. The people deserve results, not celebrity appearances,” Akande declared.
He therefore challenged the musician to present his scorecard and allow the people of Osun State to judge his performance on the basis of measurable achievements.
