JUST IN: IWD 2024: Women Group Calls for inclusion in leadership positions 
Charges government, stakeholders to give voices to young women for growth

As part of activities to commemorate International Women’s Day celebrations, a group led by her converner Hon (Mrs) Joy Otoide-Ojemoron Akoko-Edo Young Women’s Leadership Mentorship Group & Young Women Advocates have called for inclusion of women in leadership positions noting that the place of the women in nation building cannot be overlooked.
Mrs Otoide-Ojemoron stated that today the 9th of March 2024, at the Akoko-Edo Young Women’s Leadership Mentorship Training Group, in conjunction with Young Women’s Advocates, visited the popular Igarra market in Akoko-Edo LGA as part of activities marking the International Women’s Day celebration, an event which comes up on the 8th of March every year with the aim of inspiring inclusion, advocating gender equality, eliminating gender discrimination and biases, breaking glass ceilings, empowering and investing in women, and promoting societal progress.
She noted that the theme of this year’s celebration is: ‘Inspire Inclusion’, saying: ” So we are inspiring inclusion in leadership. Women are change enablers. We are progress partners. We should have an enabling environment where women’s voices, opinions and contributions will be heard, seen and recognized.
According to her: ” More opportunities should be created especially for  those from underrepresented communities irrespective of age, social status, gender and identity. I am also calling on the women to raise their voices and know their strengths and capabilities.
” More women need to get involved in leadership and women participation must be encouraged in all walks of life, be it in business, professional career or politics. It’s time to put our best foot forward and support them to blossom.
” Let’s break the chains of gender based discrimination and  inspire others  in our communities to aspire to contribute their talents, skills and experience, in their own little ways, towards developing our nation.
” Happy International Women’s day to all Akoko-Edo Women in particular, and to all Edo and Nigerian women in general”, she said.
Mrs Joy A. Omorodion one of the numbers of YWA also call for inclusion in leadership positions for women with disabilities to fully participate and contribute to society. Let’s work together to ensure their voices and talents are recognized and appreciated.
Miss Alonge Angela also said young women needs supports of government and stakeholders so that they can face the future.
Miss Mercy Atosu”said Parents should be mindful of what they do or say so that their children will not emulate them in negative ways. They should be able to train their children to always respect their elders. They should teach their children on how to be truthful always not sometimes no matter what.
In her contribution, Miss Ologun Ashimeje Victory explained further that there can not be a better society without women. She said women are supported system of the homes hence there should care and help for them from government, parents and stakeholders in the society.
She added: ” We are celebrating with every woman out here who happens to be a dreamer and a believer in their homes and society. This life has no existence without a strong ally in women starting from motherhood to being a wife, sister and daughter.
” As women in businesses, the fundamental way to inspire inclusion in our homes is to ensure that women are not just seated at tables but that our voices are heard in our homes and society as we also get to contribute greatly to the economy.
” Inclusion is seen as a universal human right hence all and sundry must be given equal access to opportunities. Women are pillars. There can no be a better home without women. That is why I am calling for supports for them. It is key for the health of the society”, she stated.
