By David Lawani, Abuja
Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has described the governorship candidate of the party, Senator Monday Okpebholo as a brother well packaged to win the Edo State Governorship poll on the 21st September, 2024.
Ganduje gave this commendation during his presentation of certificate of return to the governorship candidate saying he is a man of the moment fit to deliver the result for the party in the forthcoming election noting that due to defection of the outgoing Governor Godwin Obaseki, to the PDP, APC was lost to the state. He said with the newly elected candidate of the party, the state is as sure for the APC.
He assured that APC will constitute a committee that will meet with all the aspirants so that everyone can be on board the train of APC in Edo so as to win the election together.
He said: ” The man of the moment. Our gubernatorial candidate for Edo State Governorship primary election just elected, Senator Monday Okpebholo. I congratulate you for your victory.
” Because of a defection, we lost the governorship. But, now from the look of things, we are on the way to win that election. And we believed we have a product that is sellable. Wexhave a brother that is refined. A brother that is well packaged. And a brother that we are willing tk deliver.
” Some of the aspirants who lost came forward to congratulate him. Those who have not congratulated him were in contact with him from the reports that we have. But those who have not done so will also fall in line.
” We will constitute a committee that will invite the aspirants and that will ensure there is full harmony, cooperation, coordination because what is important now is for us to win the election in Edo State. Edo State was an APC State but you all know what happened”, he said.
Continuing, the former governor of Kano State restated the position of things which led to the former chairman of the primary election committee, Hope Uzodinma not to be available to conclude the process which led to the emergence of Prince Bassey Otu, Governor of Cross River State who later concluded the process.
He explained: ” The inconclusiveness has been concluded of the primary of our party APC n Edo state. During the first instance as you know, alot of controversy surrounding the primary. It was an announcement of three aspirants as candidates.
” As a result of the reports that we received, we found out that exercise was not concluded. So we declare it inconclusive. I requested the same committee to go back and conclude the inconclusive election. But, coincidentally the chairman of that committee, the governor of Imo stste, Senator Hope Uzodinma had a presentation to make at the national economic Council chained by the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
” Therefore he could not go back to Benin to continue with the exercise. To that effect, his Deputy, the governor of Cross River State, Senator Bassey Otu became the new chairman to conclude the inconclusive. I am happy to inform you that as we directed, and as we monitor, the direct primary election took place in all the192 wards. We have the records. The pictures. Because of technology. Even we have the videos covering all the 192 wards where the direct election was conducted.
” Secondly, collation was done in the local government headquarters, where the results were collected and collated in each local government area. And the result is available here with us. In the state level, where we mentioned to INEC, where our collation will take place..Exactly the same place and venue for all the results in the wards across the local governments of the state.
” As a result of the population, the results were announced but the Distinguished serving Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Monday Okpebholo scored the highest votes as contained in the reports. And therefore declared as the winner of the primary”, he noted.
