By OGB Joseph Abuja

The Lagos State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Cornelius Ojelabi has said the Supreme Court judgement directing the Federal Government to pay allocations of Local Government Areas to their account is a welcome development.

In a phone conversation, the Lagos State chapter of APC Chairman noted that the only way this will be seen as welcome development is when the LGAs are alive their responsibilities.

He said: ” There is no implications as far as Lagos State is concerned. The Governor has not been touching the LGAs money. They are getting their ones intact.

” The state government is even adding to what they are getting. As far as Lagos State is concerned, there is no sort of any implications”, he said.

On the strength of the overall judgement by the apex court, he noted: ” It is a welcome development. It is deepening our democracy..

” It is a wake up call to the local government areas to brace up to their responsibility. And make sure that the resources allocated to them is used for the development of their local government. All politics are local.

” If we develop our local community, we would be better of. If the local government are alive to their responsibility, to compliment the efforts of the state government and that of the Federal government.

” I think we will have a very rapid development. So, to me, it is a welcome development”, he stated.
